Egyptian Canopic Jars | Falcon + Jackal
These hand-carved canopic jars, featuring the falcon-headed Qebehsenuef and jackal-headed Duamutef, embody the ancient Egyptian tradition of sacred protection. Carefully crafted from Luxor-mined stone, each piece carries the unique character of natural stone and the skilled hands that shaped it.
In the funerary rites of ancient Egypt, canopic jars safeguarded the internal organs of the deceased, ensuring their preservation for the afterlife. Each of the Four Sons of Horus was entrusted with a specific organ, with divine guardianship from a protective goddess:
- Qebehsenuef (Falcon-Headed) – Guardian of the intestines, protected by Serqet, the scorpion goddess of healing and defense.
- Duamutef (Jackal-Headed) – Keeper of the stomach, watched over by Neith, the primordial mother and warrior goddess.
Though once a central part of burial practices, these one-of-a-kind canopic jars now serve as altar guardians, vessels of intention, or symbolic protectors within your sacred space. Their presence calls upon the wisdom and rituals of an ancient world, offering a tangible connection to Egyptian spiritual legacy.
