Altar Cloths - what are they, and how to use them

What is an Altar Cloth/Altar Scarf?

Simply put, an altar cloth/scarf is a fabric laid upon a surface with the intention of making a place of spiritual focus.

This fabric serves as both a decoration to instill awe and inspiration, as well as protecting sacred items and surfaces. Ritual cloths of all textiles have been used throughout the centuries. The color and material of the fabric also holds meaning depending on the intention for use.

We carry Midnight, Champagne, Blush and Stone coloured vegan satin scarves, their color correspondences are as below:

Midnight; A deeply protective color, brings neutrality and assists in banishing unwanted energies.

Champagne; Abundance, self belief and prosperity are associated with champagne gold.

Blush; Compassionate softness, a peaceful colour which promotes wellbeing.

Stone; Intuition and psychic abilities, assists with developing connection to spirit.

How to use an Altar Cloth?

Choosing an altar cloth which speaks to you is the first step, having patterns, colours and symbols which are representative of your intentions and what you desire to accomplish is important.

Altar cloths can be used in both temporary and permanent situations, for example as a table covering for a tarot/oracle reading or for a seasonal altar setup which will remain for months at a time.

What else can an Altar Cloth be used for?

While it is typical of altar cloths to be used specifically to cover a ritual space, they do have many purposes! Our vegan satin altar cloths are durable and can be worn as a bandana or hair accessory, they are also very useful for wrapping decks to keep them protected from scratches or wear and tear.
